James Ussher was an avid collector of historical sources material of Irish interest. A significant collection of his miscellaneous historical notes is preserved in the library of Trinity College Dublin. Where original documents were in Irish, he sometimes employed Irish scholars to translate texts into Latin for him.

Display: A portion of the Annals of Ulster commencing at 431AD transcribed in Irish and translated into Latin. This is just one of numerous extracts from various annals in the volume, many of them in Latin. While Ussher had a lengthy portion of the annals transcribed, the Latin translation was abandoned at the year 489AD.
