Exhibition: The Franciscans in Ireland and Europe:
Commendation for Florence Conry

Flaithrí Ó Maoil Chonaire

UCD-OFM C 11/ O 1. 24 January 1608. Paper (print and manuscript).

An official recommendation written on behalf of Florence Conry by the papal nuncio in Brussels, Guido Bentiveglio, titular archbishop of Rhodes and nuncio to Flanders from 1607 to 1615. The letter was addressed to the Archdukes Albert and Isabella. It makes particular reference to granting the friars permission to seek alms, a matter of contention between them and local friars in Louvain throughout the early decades of St Anthony's College and also an issue disputed among the Irish friars themselves.
