Book of Hymns/ Liber Hymnorum

TCD 1441 (E.4.2). Late 11th-early 12th century. Vellum.

This Book of Hymns is related to the other Liber Hymnorum (UCD-OFM A 2) and is of similar date. The Latin texts are written in a rounded majuscule, while the Irish texts are in angular minuscule. This manuscript has been in Trinity College Library since the seventeenth century, and is believed to have been in the possession of James Ussher.

Book of Hymns/ Liber Hymnorum

Display: ff 16v-17r. The poem Ní char Brigit buadach bith 'Victorius Brigit loved not the world' is a metrical version of the Life of St Brigit attributed to Broccán ClÓen of Clonmore, Co Carlow. It is one of a series of hymns dedicated to Brigit in the Liber Hymnorum.
