The Annals of the Four Masters

Display: ff 52v-53r. This section of the Annals is in the hand of Conaire Ó Cléirigh who was employed as a scribe and is not counted among the 'Four Masters'. In the entry for 1537, the scribe attached special importance to the obituary of Aodh Ó Domhnaill who had been head of the O'Donnells since 1505. The large lettering for his name highlights the entry. The obituary draws attention to the extent of his jurisdiction and praises his special attributes. Aodh was succeeded by his son Maghnus Ó Domhnaill who was responsible for the Life of Colum Cille.
